THE AFRICAN GREY

The history of African Grey parrots kept as pets dates back over 4,000 years. Some Egyptian hieroglyphics clearly depict pet parrots. The ancient Greeks also valued parrots as pets, and this custom was later adopted by the Wealthy Roman families often kept parrots in ornate cages, and parrots were prized for their ability to talk. King Henry VIII of England also had an African Grey parrot.

African Greys make excellent pets, however they can become one person orientated, so if it is a family pet you are wanting, complete family interaction is essential.

Our African Grey Parrots are parent reared for approximatly 14 days at which time they are removed for Hand Rearing. As with all our birds they are raised by ourselves, from our own breeding pairs in a family enviroment and are usually available for sale at 12 - 14 weeks.

BLUE AND GOLD MACAW

is striking in its appearance due to its beautiful coloration. Its back and upper tail feathers are brilliant blue while the underside of the tail is olive yellow. The forehead feathers are green. The wing feathers are blue with green tips, and the underwing coverts and breast are yellow-orange. The bare facial area is creamy white with several lines made of small black feathers. The beak is gray-black, and the throat is black. The eyes of an adult bird are yellow and its legs are gray.

The young are born featherless; but, at ten weeks, they are covered with feathers and the wings and tail have attained their full length. Baby macaws have black eyes, but the color changes over time from black to gray to white to yellow as an adult bird. At six months, it is hard to distinguish the young from the parents.

Our Macaws Parrots are parent reared for approximatly 17 days at which time they are removed for Hand Rearing. As with all our birds they are raised by ourselves, from our own breeding pairs in a family enviroment and are usually available for sale at 16 - 20 weeks.

Blue and Golds make excellent pets but need large space for excercise. They can be noisy and messy.

CAIQUE

In the wild, caiques generally prefer forested areas and subsist on fruit and seeds. Caiques are generally canopy dwellers, spending most of their time in the tops of trees, foraging and playing.

Caiques are also occasionally known as the "Seven-Colour Parrot" because black, green, yellow, orange, white and blue feathers have all been observed. They have also been historically known as "The Dancing Parrot" for their habit of hopping and dancing, especially when encouraged by music.

Our Caiques are parent reared for approximatly 12 days at which time they are removed for Hand Rearing. As with all our birds they are raised by ourselves, from our own breeding pairs in a family enviroment and are usually available for sale at 12 - 14 weeks.

We breed both Black Headed and Yellow Thighed Caiques.

Caiques make the very best pets. Although they can be quite noisy they are fun, loving and bond to the whole family.

AMAZON PARROTS

An Amazon parrot is a large parrot of the genus Amazona native to the New World ranging from South America to Mexico and the Caribbean.

Most amazons are predominantly green, with accenting colors that depend on the species and can be quite vivid.

Amazons are known for their exceptional vocal abilities, playfulness, and dexterity with their feet. They are very loyal, loving companions; having them is somewhat like having a two-year-old-human child in ability and temperament for 50-plus years.

We bread Yellow Crowned, Orange Winged, Blue Fronted and Double Yellow Headed Amazon Parrots.

Our Amazons are parent reared for approximatly 14 days at which time they are removed for Hand Rearing. As with all our birds they are raised by ourselves, from our own breeding pairs in a family enviroment and are usually available for sale at 12 - 14 weeks.

HAHNS MACAW

Talking Ability: Moderate

Noise Level: Low to Moderate

Temperament:
The Hahn's macaw, though the smallest of the macaws, still acts similar to the larger ones. They are bold and outgoing, and fairly intelligent. They can be taught many tricks, and love to perform for a head scratch or a treat. They can be nippy on occasion, but that can be minimized by daily handling and proper discipline.

As with all our birds they are raised by ourselves, from our own breeding pairs in a family enviroment and are usually available for sale at 12 - 14 weeks.

GALAH COCKATOO

Talking Ability: Moderate

Noise Level: Moderate

Temperament:
Rose Breasted Cockatoos are much easier for most owners than the other cockatoo species, as they are less demanding and require less time out of the cage. They are outgoing and playful, yet will calm down enough for a head scratch. Scratching under their beaks will make them most appreciative. While these birds are easier to own than the other cockatoos, they are still not for everyone, so some research is necessary before purchasing one

MOLLUCCAN COCKATOO

Moluccan Cockatoos are larger than the Umbrella Cockatoo.
Moluccan Cockatoos are a little more playful than the Umbrella. The Moluccan Cockatoo is a one of the more affectionate, intelligent and emotional of the cockatoos. Because he is very cuddly and affection he can very easily be spoiled as a baby, and can become very demanding and begin screaming to get attention. Moluccan Cockatoos must learn to entertain themselves. Routines must be avoided, and toys provided so that they have other outlets for their curiosity and playfulness. A routine that is suddenly deviated from, for any reason, is not usually understood and may be met with a screaming rebellion. A pet Moluccan Cockatoo can be a constant source of entertainment and companionship. They are extremely intelligent, and learn behaviors, both positive and negative, very easily. To the pet owner, this may be a detriment or an advantage, depending on their understanding of parrots.
